I’ve been exploring so many different ways to increase my traffic and recently implemented the strategy I’ll be sharing below. In short, it’s a welcome page I created on my blog that resembles linktr.ee. I’m sure many of you have heard of linktr.ee, if not, I’ll sum it up for you. It’s a way to link multiple posts within on the same page which is especially helpful to include in social media bios. I used linktr.ee for quite some time until I created something similar DIRECTLY on my blog, which has been SO MUCH more beneficial for me traffic wise. Also, it gives me more of a peace of mind since I can customize it to its entirety, such as the color scheme, font, etc!
Like I mentioned above, I was a linktr.ee user for quite some time and loved the idea behind it, you can see the one I used here or see below for a quick look at it. I linked the posts I wanted to highlight, active giveaways and sometimes shared any special deals that were going on.
As much as I loved the ease and simplicity behind linktr.ee, I wasn’t 100% satisfied. The color schemes are limited, especially for someone like me who loves everything to be coordinated to my blog and that was the biggest reason I decided to find a way to create my own version of it. After deciding to create my own version – my “Welcome” page, I realized how much blog traffic I was missing out on while using linktr.ee.
I did some research and found out I wasn’t alone in this thought! Upon several conversations, I found many bloggers who had created their own version of this for similar reasons to me – and many of them mentioned how their blog views had increased through creating their own version of linktr.ee! They all had different names behind it but essentially created a page on their blog that did what linktr.ee did. I called mine a “welcome” page, it just seemed more fitting for my needs.
If you’re thinking how difficult and time consuming it must be to create your own welcome page, don’t stress! I was surprised to see how easy it was to create my own – I literally was able to get it up and running in less than an hour! I’ll go through the steps as simple as I can so you can create your own.
Step 1: Create A New Page
First thing first, you’ll want to create a new page. I named mine “welcome” but you can name it whatever you want. Here’s mine if you want to keep it open for comparison while designing yours.
Step 2: Create Graphics
Canva is going to be your best friend for this step. Canva is a free way to design graphics for all your needs. For this specific page, you’ll want to click the option “use custom dimensions” on the top right. If you like the size of the graphics I created, you can use the dimensions 600×250. If not, type in the dimensions you want them to be.
Change the color of the background if you don’t want it to be white. Then you’ll want to add text from the menu on the left. The text I include is the title of the post I’ll be linking. After you’re satisfied, download the image and create as many other graphics you want to show on your page.
Step 3: Add the Images To Your Page and Link Each Post to Its Specific Graphic
Go back to the page you created and insert all the graphics. I personally use WordPress and am able to link my post to each graphic when uploading it. When readers see a certain post they find interesting, clicking on the graphic will take them to that post!
Step 4: Save Your Page
You’re all set! Make updates as you need and link this page to your social media bios! See below for my page in action on Instagram.
Just in case you’re curious here’s a snapshot of how much my traffic increased by adding my Welcome page in my social media bios. A huge chunk of these views, almost 75%, is from adding this page to my Instagram bio. I’ve gotten over 300 page views in the first 30 days alone – those are views I would not have had if I was still using linktr.ee!
This may not be a huge number for some of you but I think it’s excellent! Every page view counts and it really helps keeps things more refined and organized when it comes to choosing a specific link to add to my social media bios. Moreover, it helps bring more traffic to some of my best posts as well as a few older ones I want to bring back to life! This method really highlights a lot of my articles and giveaway and helps increase my views overall.
Do you have your own welcome page or something similar you created? I’d love to know!
